The 1981 (P) Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a nickel in the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 657,504,000 nickels dated 1981. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Standard production from both mints. The "P" mint mark continued on Philadelphia issues. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding.
