Description
FDC-5c-1979-01 This example of floating die clash is very faint and incomplete. As far as we’re aware, Frank Leone was the first collector who identified it as a floating die clash. A small chunk of the obverse die face broke off, carrying part of Jefferson’s coat and the letter “I” from IN. The fragment flipped over and was struck by the obverse die, damaging the recess corresponding to Jefferson’s coat. The clash consists of a faint impression of the die fragment’s rim gutter and what appear to be faint details of the design. This cud is listed in The Cud Book (Thurman and Margolis, 1997) as JNC-79-1 and on Cuds-On-Coins.com as CU-5c-1979-01.
