1983 Floating Die Clash FDC-5c-1983P-01

Description

FDC-5c-1983P-01 This floating die clash features the incuse, mirror-image letters “US” (from TRUST) in the southwest quadrant of the reverse face.  They are derived from a die fragment that broke away from the obverse die.  The reverse die struck the working face of the die fragment.  This particular cud is listed in The Cud Book Supplement (Margolis and Thurman, 2001) as JNC-83P-18 and as CU-5c-1983-01 on the site Cuds-On-Coins.com. FDC-5c-1983P-01A FDC-5c-1983P-01B A recent discovery (May, 2014) by Kevin Bridgeman shows that the mint changed out the broken obverse die of the 1983-P Jefferson nickel, but left the slightly damaged reverse die in place to still strike coins. This created a different marriage pair for this floating die clash and a new designation FDC-5c-1983P-01B.
