Description

This 1976-S silver Kennedy half dollar is VarietyVista doubled die obverse DDO-001 and Wexler's WDDO-001, cross-referenced by both catalogs as FS-101 (Wexler writes it FS-50-1976S-101). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a counterclockwise (CCW) spread from a pivot near 10:00. The doubling appears on WE TRUST, on the TY of LIBERTY and the date, on the designer's initials, and on the hair at the lower back of the head. Two obverse markers are listed: a die scratch in the lower part of the top of the Y in LIBERTY, and a small die dot under the left side of the crossbar of the T in LIBERTY. No reverse markers are noted. Mark Clewell submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 1-O-V. VarietyVista, which also credits Mark Clewell, describes a light spread on WE TRUST and notes the coin is silver. Under its marker codes UVC-227 and DMR-002 it confirms stage A, with both sides in an early die state; a middle stage B and a late stage C are unconfirmed.
