Description
The 1976 (S) Silver Kennedy Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Bicentennial Coins 1976 series. The U.S. Mint produced 11 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 2% of total production. The obverse features the standard obverse for each denomination with dual dates 1776-1976 and the reverse displays special reverse designs: Colonial drummer boy (quarter), Independence Hall (half dollar), Liberty Bell and Moon (dollar). Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $19 depending on grade and condition. Struck in outer layers - 80% silver, 20% copper; center - 79% copper, 21% silver, weighing 11.5 grams, 31 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6728.
