Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDR-002 for the 1976-S clad proof Eisenhower dollar, this doubled die reverse shows light spread on the lower right star, AMERICA, and DOLLAR on Dennis R. Williams's Bicentennial reverse. VarietyVista lists it as a copper-nickel clad proof, not one of the 40% silver proofs, struck with its broad-lettering reverse (RDV-004): the Type 1 reverse used on the clad proof dollars of the 1975 proof sets. It was reported by James Wiles. Like other doubled dies, the doubling was hubbed into the die itself, so every coin the die struck shows it; light spread like this one's is easiest to confirm under magnification on the lettering named above.
