1973-S Doubled Die Obverse DDO-003

Description

Carrying medium hub doubling spread across both the motto and date, the 1973-S Silver Proof Eisenhower Dollar DDO-003 displays displacement on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1973, with additional doubling on the R of LIBERTY. The simultaneous doubling on motto, date, and a portion of LIBERTY indicates a broad-zone hub misalignment affecting a substantial arc of the obverse die face. Die markers UVC-052 and DMR-006 identify this working die across three stages: Stage A where both obverse and reverse are in early die state, Stage B in mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). As a silver proof struck at the San Francisco Mint on polished 40% silver planchets at 24.59 grams, the deep mirror fields make doubled die diagnostics particularly visible under angled light. Attributed by VarietyVista, this is the third-listed DDO for the 1973-S Silver Proof — a date with lower collector-issue mintages than the preceding 1972-S.
