1972 (S) Proof Kennedy Half Dollar - Variety WSDO-001

Description

1972-S WSDO-001 is a series doubling obverse listing on the 1972-S proof Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A light counterclockwise (CCW) spread shows on IN GOD WE TRUST (IGWT) and LIBERTY, with its pivot near 11:00. The die markers on the obverse and reverse are not fixed: Wexler notes they vary among the affected working dies. John A. Wexler submitted it, and CONECA lists it as SD-1-O-II+V. Wexler's comments say the doubling came into use partway through 1971, stayed in use all through 1972, and can be found on coins from all three mints.
