1972 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-013

Description

1972 WDDO-013 is a doubled die obverse on the 1972 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong clockwise (CW) spread leaves traces of an extra horizontal bar on the 2 of the date, well above the normal bar. The coin also carries the master die doubling seen on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST for this date. On the obverse, several scratches run WNW from the rim under the right side of the bust; one of the stronger ones lies under the initials' D and B. Several more scratches run ESE from the rim over IN and WE. On the reverse, right of the top of AMERICA's second A there is a small gouge, and right of the last column's base there is a small gouge (dot). Another dot lies north of the initials' F, and two small gouges sit between the lower parts of the O and N in ONE. Brian Allen submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
