Description
1971-S WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1971-S proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the rim shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (most strongly on AMERICA), E PLURIBUS UNUM and the eagle's head. Wexler notes it lacks some of the noticeable split serifs that WDDR-001 has on E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the obverse, scratches mark the rim over the TY of LIBERTY, and a gouge lies to the left of LIBERTY's L. On the reverse, a gouge sits between the leaves over the LA of DOLLAR. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
