Description

1971-S WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1971-S proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center shows on AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR and the branches. On the obverse, several gouges lie around the LIB of LIBERTY, a gouge sits NE of the S mintmark, and gouges lie right of WE. On the reverse, a gouge lies at the lower tip of the eagle's right wing, and another sits between the first E of E PLURIBUS UNUM and the wing. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
