1971-S Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006
Error
Description
San Francisco proof from the early clad era, the 1971-S DDR-006 displays light spread on STATES OF AMERICA and stars beneath those letters — a localized doubling pattern suggesting hub displacement affected the lower reverse more than upper elements. Cataloged by VarietyVista with UVC-463 and DMR-026, this variety is confirmed at Early Die State and paired with obverse die variety ODV-002. The concentration of doubling on STATES OF AMERICA and adjacent stars while other lettering shows less effect indicates the secondary hub impression involved a slight pivot rather than a uniform shift. As a proof issue, the 1971-S was struck at San Francisco on specially prepared planchets with polished dies, the mirror fields making even light doubling more apparent than on business strikes. The 1971-S Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in copper-nickel clad after the final 40% silver proofs ended in 1970. Roberts' and Gasparro's Kennedy design was in its eighth year, struck at 30.6mm. Focus on STATES OF AMERICA and the stars directly below for light spread, and verify ODV-002 on the obverse for complete die marriage attribution.
