1971-S Doubled Die Obverse DDO-011

Description

Proof dies undergo a specialized manufacturing process involving multiple hubbing impressions on polished die blanks, and when those impressions shift between applications, the result is a doubled die that carries mirror-field proof surfaces alongside its diagnostic spread. DDO-011 on the 1971-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar exhibits light spread on the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST, with the strongest displacement visible on TRUST. Die markers cataloged as UVC-191 and DMR-013 document three known die states: Stage A in early die state shows a long thin die scratch running southeast through the hair, with the reverse also in EDS; Stage B and Stage C represent mid-die state and late die state respectively, both unconfirmed.
