Description
Cross-referenced as FS-101, DDO-004 on the 1971-D Kennedy half dollar, which Wexler also numbers WDDO-004, shows a medium spread on the IBERTY of LIBERTY, the 71 of the date, GOD, WE TRUST and the designer's initials. Wexler writes the cross-reference FS-50-1971D-101. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a counterclockwise (CCW) spread from a pivot near 10:00 on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the ERTY of LIBERTY and the hair details under ER. On the obverse, X-shaped die scratches sit halfway up the back of the nose, and a diagonal scratch lies midway between the eyebrow and the hair, west of the eyebrow. The reverse is Wexler's WDDR-001: every star around the reverse shows extra thickness and some notching, most strongly from 2:00 to 6:00; AMERICA shows some notching on its lower letters; and a die scratch runs SW from the star between the L and A of DOLLAR. The submitter was Bill Fivaz, and CONECA lists the die as 4-O-V. VarietyVista credits Ed Raser with the report, gives the obverse its design-variety code ODV-003, notes the reverse is listed as DDR-002, and adds that the coin can be found in Mint Sets. Under its marker codes UVC-173 and DMR-006, an early stage A is unconfirmed; at stage B the obverse and the DDR-002 reverse are in a middle die state; at stage C both sides are in a late die state.
