Description

1970-S WDDO-020 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling sits under the crossbar of LIBERTY's L and over the crossbar of the 7 in the date. Wexler records three obverse stages. At Stage A, a short scratch heads SW from the 7's upper left, and another scratch runs north-south between WE's E and the first T of TRUST. At Stage B, short scratches run west off the back of the bust, and a scratch curves southward from the lower left of GOD's G. By Stage C, every earlier marker has become very faint or has disappeared. On the reverse at Stage A, there is a gouge right of the base of UNITED's N, another gouge under the first S of STATES, and pitting over the right base of the Memorial. Reverse Stage B shows many NW/SE scratches to the Memorial's left. At reverse Stage C, a small gouge sits at the base of the third Memorial bay, and another small gouge lies under the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM. John A. Wexler submitted Stage A, and Frank Baumann submitted Stage B and Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
