1970 (S) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Large Date - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-019

Description

1970-S WDDO-019 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling sits under the L's horizontal bar in LIBERTY and over the 7's horizontal bar in the date. Obverse, Stage A: a long SSW/NNE scratch lies well north of the B in LIBERTY; Wexler notes it shows on every stage of the variety. Stage B: faint remnants of a die clash lie left of the back of the neck. Stage C: strong clash marks from two Memorial bays show left of the back of the neck, and a very strong horizontal clash mark runs to the lower part of the date's 1, starting at the vest's front. Reverse, Stage A: a gouge touches the N in UNITED at its upper right. Stage B pairs the obverse with a different reverse die, which has a small gouge left of the left Memorial base. Stage C: clash remnants lie above the right side of the roof. Bill Wilson submitted Stage A, and John A. Wexler submitted Stage B and Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
