Description

1970-S WDDO-018 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The 70 of the date shows a counterclockwise (CCW) spread, pivoting at about 9:00. Obverse, Stage A: a gouge left of the lower N of IN, and a small gouge at the rim over the second T in TRUST. Stage B: two small gouges (dots) over the 7. Stage C: heavy abrading, a scratch going NNE from the top of the 7, and a curving scratch left of the upper G of GOD. Reverse, Stage A: a short scratch going SSE from the bottom of the 2nd T in STATES. Stage B is the same as Stage A. Stage C: many curving scratches. Delma K. Romines submitted Stage A, and Frank Baumann submitted Stage B and Stage C. CONECA lists it as 5-O-V and Crawford as CDDO-021; its Cherrypickers number is FS-01-1970S-103 (030.1), and Breen lists it as #2257. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
