1970 (S) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Large Date - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-011

Description

1970-S WDDO-011 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling sits under the 7's horizontal bar and below the top of the 0. Obverse, Stage A: a horizontal scratch joins the tops of the date's 9 and 7. Stage B: strong clash marks lie left of the back of the neck, with a horizontal line linking the lower part of the date's 1 to the bust, and many scratches, mostly SSW/NNE, sit on both sides of the bust. On the reverse, Stage A shows an incuse, upside-down Y, left by a die clash, high in the second bay, plus a small gouge under the left Memorial base. By Stage B, neither Stage A marker can be seen. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDO-004, and its Coppercoins number is 1970S-1DO-009. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
