1970 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-032

Description

1970-D WDDO-032 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. There is doubling over the top of the 7 and slightly under the L in LIBERTY. The obverse has many scratches. At the date, short scratches extend SE from the lower right of the 7, and a weak NE/SW scratch lies left of the 9. Thin N/S scratches sit left of the D mint mark. On the bust, E/W scratches mark its front tip and weak NW/SE scratches lie below it. A short scratch runs SE from the eyebrow. Numerous N/S scratches pass through IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY, a scratch goes south from the T in LIBERTY, and a strong scratch sits over the first T in TRUST, on its right side. There is also a gouge near the rim well left of IN, and a very small gouge left of the base of the G in GOD. On the reverse, the designer's initials (FG) are slightly overabraded. Thin E/W scratches appear all over, most noticeably at the cornices, across the N in ONE, and across the NT in CENT, and a weak NW/SE scratch lies under the IC in AMERICA.
