Submitted by researcher Larry Alford, WDDO-031 on the 1970-D Lincoln Memorial cent features doubling above the 7 and below the L in LIBERTY, accompanied by an extensive set of die markers. On the obverse, die scratches extend from the numeral 7 and from Lincoln's eyebrow area, providing markers in both the date zone and the portrait zone. Additional scratches thread through IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY — the two legends that frame the obverse design — while a die gouge near the rim to the left of IN serves as a landmark-scale marker visible even under low magnification. The reverse carries its own extensive marker set: the designer's initials FG (Frank Gasparro) appear overabraded — polished beyond normal die maintenance levels — and scratches traverse the reverse surface in patterns documented across the die's service life.
