Description
1970-D WDDO-027 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Slight doubling lies beneath the tops of the date's 7 and 0. Wexler notes that this obverse is also a repunched mint mark, listed as 1970-D 1¢ WRPM-005 in its RPM files, with the secondary D to the northeast (D/D Northeast). A scratch runs WSW to the vest, starting at the base of the date's 9. On the reverse, two short WSW to ENE scratches sit over the right side of the Memorial roof, and a scratch joins the T and E of STATES along their bottoms. Brian Allen submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Its comments add that CONECA lists the RPM as RPM #6 but does not record the doubled die, and that the same holds for Coppercoins. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties, on the strength of the repunched mint mark.
