1970 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

1970-D WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Doubling shows above the 7's horizontal bar, slightly over the 0 of the date at its top, and slightly under the L in LIBERTY. Obverse, Stage A: a gouge (dot) lies below the D mint mark, and a small dot touches the lower right of IN's N. To the right of the chin is a SSW to NNE scratch, and another runs SW off the chin's underside; other scratches also appear on the obverse. Stage B: heavy abrasion of the die has left many west-to-east scratches both in front of and behind the bust. On the reverse, Stage A has a gouge centered over the TE in UNITED and a die dent sticking out from the upper right of the T in CENT. Stage B: this side, too, has been heavily abraded. Left of the Memorial, a scratch runs south to north and ends at the lower left corner of UNITED's E, and many other scratches cover the reverse. Submitters: Frank Baumann (Stage A) and John A.
