Description

Fifteenth in the doubled die reverse catalog for 1969-D Kennedy Half Dollars, DDR-015 presents light spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with a distinctive feature: rotation on the stars above HALF DOLLAR, but no doubling on the final three rays. This selective pattern — star bodies rotate while terminal rays remain unaffected — provides an unusual diagnostic. The die is identified as RDV-003 paired with ODV-002a, where the ODV references a Master Die Obverse configuration. Stage A places both sides in early die state, confirming the variety from initial production. Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. This 40% silver-clad Denver Mint issue was produced during the final years of silver content in Kennedy Halves, as the denomination transitioned to copper-nickel clad in 1971.
