1969-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006

Description

Struck at the Denver Mint in the 40% silver clad composition used for Kennedy Half Dollars from 1965 through 1970, DDR-006 on the 1969-D issue exhibits medium spread on the lower letters and stars under STATES OF AMERICA, with light spread on the stars between the rays of the heraldic eagle reverse. Die markers are cataloged as UVC-390 and DMR-012. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in EDS (unconfirmed), Stage B with the reverse and obverse in MDS, and Stage C in LDS (unconfirmed). The die variety designations are RDV-003 paired with ODV-002a (MDO), indicating a misplaced date obverse variant accompanies this doubled die reverse. Denver Mint regular strike. The medium spread on the lower peripheral elements while lighter spread appears between the rays suggests a hub misalignment that produced greater displacement at the die's edge than near the center—consistent with rotational or tilted hub mechanics.
