1968 Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-001

Description

DDO-001, which Wexler also numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1968 Roosevelt dime with LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials and the date showing a medium spread. Both catalogs cite Cherrypickers FS-101, which Wexler writes as FS-10-1968-101. Wexler describes a Class I counterclockwise spread on the same four areas. On the obverse a short scratch lies NE of the 8 in the date; on the reverse a gouge sits right of the lower part of the M in DIME. John A. Wexler submitted the coin. Wexler's CONECA cross-reference reads 1-R-V. VarietyVista credits James Wiles with the report and notes that the variety turns up in Mint Sets. Under its marker codes UVC-505 and DMR-002 it records Stage A with both obverse and reverse in an early die state; Stage B (middle die state) and Stage C (late die state) are unconfirmed.
