1967 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003
ErrorDescription
Clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 8:00 showing on STATES OF AMERICA characterizes this third DDR for the 1967 Washington Quarter, struck in the copper-nickel clad composition adopted under the Coinage Act of 1965. The pivot point classification indicates a rotational hub displacement centered off-axis, producing doubling that intensifies with distance from the pivot — design elements near 8:00 show minimal displacement while elements opposite that point show maximum spread. Die markers on the obverse include a die scratch running north from the 6 in the date, a short die scratch running SW/NE to the right of the lower B in LIBERTY, and numerous additional die scratches throughout. The reverse shows die pitting in the upper O of OF. Cross-referenced under Wexler Variety ID: 1967 25¢ WDDR-003 with no other known references, this variety was attributed by the Wexler Team. The 1967 Washington Quarter was produced without a mintmark, as the Mint eliminated mintmarks from 1965 through 1967 to discourage speculation during the transition from silver to clad coinage. The clad composition coins of 1965-1967 are undated by mint, making all three facilities' output indistinguishable by mintmark.
