Description
Swoger catalog number D1967-1c. This 76mm bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Seabees (Naval Construction Battalions). The Seabees were established on March 5, 1942, to build military infrastructure in combat zones during World War II. Their accomplishments were legendary — in the Pacific theater they built over 400 advanced bases in support of island-hopping campaigns, including the construction of complete airfields on captured islands within days of amphibious landings. The Seabees also constructed major installations across the Atlantic theater and played vital roles in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. This 76mm bronze medal is the large-format base-metal option in the D1967-1 Seabees series.
Rarity Notes
