Coin Details
Description
Swoger catalog number D1975-1c. This bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia to commemorate the bicentennial of Paul Revere's midnight ride. On the night of April 18, 1775, Revere rode from Boston to Lexington, Massachusetts, to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British regulars were marching to arrest them and seize colonial military stores at Concord. Revere's ride, immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1861 poem "Paul Revere's Ride," became one of the most celebrated events of the American Revolution. Beyond his fame as a rider, Revere was a skilled silversmith, engraver, and industrialist who established one of America's first copper rolling mills. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. This bronze issue is part of the D1975-1 Paul Revere bicentennial series.
