Description
Cross-referenced as FS-103, the 1967 Kennedy half dollar DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-006, is cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-108, DMR-003 and shows a strong rotational spread on IN GOD, the LIB of LIBERTY, the nostril, forehead, eye, lower lip and hair at the top of the head, with the 1 of the date also affected. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number FS-50-1967-103. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes two kinds of doubling: a strong clockwise spread from a pivot near 4:00 on GOD, LIB, the hair at the top of the forehead, the nose, the chin and the front point of the bust, and a Class VI spread toward the center on 967, WE TRUST and ERTY. In obverse stage A clash marks show on the nose and below the ear, and heavy abrading of the die has broken the bridge of the nose. In obverse stage B a die crack crosses the top of the T and runs from the T's right side out to the rim. Wexler notes no reverse markers in either stage. Jennifer Casazza submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 1-O-II+V. VarietyVista, crediting George Schaetzle, adds a light spread on TRUST and a triple spread on the RTY of LIBERTY, and marks the coin as a business strike (BS). Under its marker codes UVC-108 and DMR-003, both sides are in an early die state in stage A. Stage B, early-middle, shows die clash under the ear and on the nose and strong north-south die scratches on both obverse and reverse. Stage C, a late die state, is unconfirmed.
