Description
Swoger catalog number D1967-2a. This 76mm bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Federal Land Bank System. Established by the Federal Farm Loan Act of 1916 signed by President Woodrow Wilson, the Federal Land Banks provided long-term agricultural credit to American farmers through a cooperative system of twelve regional banks. By their 50th anniversary in 1967, the Land Banks had become a cornerstone of the Farm Credit System, helping millions of farmers finance land purchases and improvements. The 76mm diameter provides a large format for this institutional commemorative.
