Description

Thirty-seventh doubled die obverse cataloged for the 1966 Kennedy Half Dollar, DDO-037 exhibits a medium spread affecting Kennedy's chin, lips, nose, eye, ear, and hair at the back of the head — a comprehensive distribution of doubling across the full portrait profile. Tracked by VarietyVista with technical codes UVC-543 and DMR-044, this variety has been documented through three die stages: Stage A in early die state shows a light horizontal die gouge in the edge of the upper hair along with a light die scratch running south from the O of GOD, with the reverse also in early die state. Stage B places both obverse and reverse at mid-die state, and Stage C is listed as late die state but remains unconfirmed. The 1966 Kennedy Half Dollar occupies a unique position in the series as part of the three-year SMS (Special Mint Set) era when traditional proof production was suspended.
