Description
Swoger catalog number D1966-1a. This matte silver medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the American Numismatic Association (ANA). Founded on October 7, 1891, in Rochester, New York, by five coin collectors led by Dr. George F. Heath, the ANA grew to become the largest numismatic organization in the world. By its 75th anniversary in 1966, the ANA had established its headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where it maintains the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum. The association publishes The Numismatist, one of the longest continuously published magazines in the United States, dating to 1888. The matte silver finish gives this medal a distinctive satin appearance. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward.
Rarity Notes
