1965 Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1965 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1965 Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class II spread toward the center appears on USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), the stars below USA, E PLURIBUS UNUM (EPU), the stars above EPU and the banner's upper edge. HALF DOLLAR, the stars over it and the four stars right of the eagle's head show a closer spread. On the obverse, parallel scratches run SW from the top of the I in IN. On the reverse, a star sits under the A in STATES, toward its left side, and a short gouge juts from that star's lower right; also, a gouge lies right of the lower part of the first L in DOLLAR. Jennifer Casazza submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes it was once WDDR-007 and was renumbered to help fill the many gaps in the listings left after a doubled working hub was recognized. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
