1795 Liberty Cap Right Half Cent Die Clash and Unusual Die Crack

Description

A die clash and unusual die crack are visible on this 1795 Liberty Cap Right half cent. A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring elements of each die's design onto the opposing die. An unusual die crack is a crack in the die that follows an atypical path, often running through design elements rather than from rim to rim. In this case, clash marks can be seen under Liberty's chin, as well as in front of and behind Liberty's head, and a die crack runs from the bust down between the "9" and the "5" in the date. The 1795 Liberty Cap Right half cent was produced in several varieties distinguished by their edge type and the presence or absence of a pole on the liberty cap.
