Description

Minted in the final year of silver Roosevelt Dimes, DDR-017 presents light spread across all rim lettering manifesting as notched serifs, with the strongest expression on UNITED. The notched-serif effect — where the letter terminals appear doubled as tiny extra projections — is a subtle but diagnostic feature requiring magnification to confirm. This variety pairs with obverse die ODV-011, distinguished by a blunt 9 in the date. Cataloged as UVC-451 with DMR-026, the variety has been documented at Stage B showing strong die scratches on the rim above RICA of AMERICA, at mid-die state. The 1964 Proof Roosevelt Dime holds special numismatic significance as the last proof issue struck in 90% silver composition. Beginning in 1965, dimes transitioned to copper-nickel clad — and no proof coins of any denomination were produced from 1965 through 1967 during the Special Mint Set period.
