1964 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005
Error
Description
Exhibiting a Class V clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 7 o’clock, this 1964 Proof Roosevelt Dime doubled die obverse shows doubling solely on the hair details, with no spread visible on lettering or other design elements. The concentrated effect on hair contours alone indicates a very slight rotational displacement during hubbing, enough to shift fine parallel lines but insufficient to visibly affect bolder design features. Obverse die markers include a blunt tail on the 9 in the date, numerous die scratches on the left obverse rim with two especially strong scratches on the rim below the I in IN, and two small die gouges below the chin. On the reverse, the die is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files, creating a die marriage with doubling on both sides. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 1964 10¢ Pr WDDO-005, this variety was struck during the final year of 90% silver Roosevelt Dime production, making it a terminal-date silver proof with a documented DDO/DDR die marriage.
