1964 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-016
Error
Description
Closing out the final year of 90% silver Roosevelt Dime production, the 1964 Proof DDR-016 preserves a light spread on UNITED STATES OF and ONE — key reverse inscriptions carrying subtle but measurable hub doubling. Cataloged by VarietyVista with UVC-450 and DMR-025, this variety pairs with obverse die variety ODV-011, which features a blunt 9 in the date as an additional diagnostic. Three stages are documented: Stage A at Early Die State (unconfirmed), Stage B at Mid Die State, and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed), mapping the die's service life. The 1964 date holds enormous significance — it was the last year the dime was struck in 90% silver before the Coinage Act of 1965 mandated the switch to copper-nickel clad. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially polished planchets for maximum detail. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime, introduced in 1946, was in its nineteenth year at 17.9mm. Examine UNITED STATES OF and ONE for light spread, verify the blunt 9 from ODV-011, and note the die state for proper stage classification.
