Description

Primary doubled die obverse for the final-year 1964 Roosevelt Silver Dime, DDO-001 exhibits medium extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials (JS), and the date, with strong notches on the upper left corners of LIBERTY. The VarietyVista system assigns UVC-430 and DMR-005, with three die states: Stage A (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B (obverse and reverse at MDS), and Stage C (LDS, unconfirmed). The comments identify the obverse as ODV-011 characterized by a blunt 9 in the date — a distinctive obverse die variety marker where the bottom of the 9 appears truncated rather than tapering to a point, providing an immediately recognizable attribution feature. The strong notches on LIBERTY's letter corners represent a more dramatic form of doubling where hub misalignment created stepped, notched edges on the letter serifs — a diagnostically powerful indicator that is often visible under lower magnification than typical extra thickness doubling.
