1964 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005
Error
Description
1964 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY shows a close spread toward the rim. On the obverse, two short vertical gouges sit between the upper parts of the I and B in LIBERTY. The reverse is itself a doubled die, listed in the Wexler files as 1964 proof WDDR-006: a spread toward the center appears on the branch ends, the lower right leaves, the eagle's left wing, E PLURIBUS UNUM and STATES OF AMERICA, and slightly on QUARTER DOLLAR. A gouge lies between the O in OF and the second S in STATES, at the S's bottom. Ralph Huntzinger submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
