1964 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-021

Description

1964 WDDR-021 is a doubled die reverse on the 1964 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center appears on ONE DIME, NUM of UNUM, E PLU and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The obverse has a Blunt Tail 9 and is a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1964 proof WDDO-010, with a very close spread toward the center on the designer's initials and slight doubling on the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. A scratch lies on the rim over LI in LIBERTY, and gouges sit left of IN's I and left of LIBERTY's E. On the reverse, heavy scratches on the rim cluster near the left dot. A thin NW/SE scratch runs from STATES's first T to the rim, and a thin NE/SW scratch lies left of STATES's E. Gouges sit under UNITED's T, left of the top of STATES's A, over OF's F and under the left side of DIME's E. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The comments explain that the markers recorded and pictured come from a later stage than Wexler's original coin (also pictured), on which no markers were recorded, and that it is unknown whether the earlier stage pairs with WDDO-010, since the doubled die obverse was not mentioned before.
