Description
The 1964 (D) Kennedy Half Dollar - D/D is a half dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Kennedy Half Dollars Silver 1964 to Date series. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal — a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. Rushed into production weeks after President Kennedy's assassination. Both Philadelphia and Denver struck massive quantities that were immediately hoarded. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $613 MS65 02-10-2013 Great Collections. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.61 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #411633.
