1963 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

1963 WDDR-005 is a doubled die reverse on the 1963 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class II spread toward the center appears on the lower leaves, the tail feathers' bottom, the lower parts of both wings, both branches, and the lower serifs of QUARTER DOLLAR, UNITED and AMERICA. On the eagle's left leg, the center talon is doubled as well. On the obverse, north of the 9 in the date, several curved scratches mark the bust's base. On the reverse, a NW/SE scratch crosses the center arrow feather, and a scratch links the rightmost tail feather with the leaf. Russ LeBeau submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-R-V. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
