Extremely close spread producing characteristic notches on the upper letters of UNITED distinguishes this Wexler-attributed 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime WDDR-009, with additional extra thickness on E PLU of E PLURIBUS UNUM. The term "notches" describes how the tight spread creates small step-like irregularities at letter tops — a diagnostic appearance distinct from the smooth broadening of wider spreads. The close intensity means the secondary hub impression sits almost directly atop the primary, producing effects visible only under careful magnification. No significant obverse or reverse die markers have been documented. This is the first of two reverse doubled dies from the 1963 proof production in this catalog segment — WDDR-009 is characterized by its notched lettering, while WDDR-017 exhibits clockwise rotation from a different pivot point affecting different elements.
