Description

A small bar from a tilted clockwise spread shows under the L of LIBERTY. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A small die gouge can be found just below the N of IN. A die scratch connects the lower R and T of LIBERTY. A die scratch extends northeast from the top of the 6. A short die scratch extends southeast from Lincoln’s throat. A long die scratch extends south-southwest from the bottom of the T in LIBERTY. A small die gouge can be found to the right of Lincoln’s lower lip. Remnants of a die clash connect the upper 1 and 9 in the date. Obverse Stage B: All Stage A die scratches are much weaker. The die gouge below the N of IN is gone while the die gouge to the right of the lower lip is much stronger. Obverse Stage C: All Stage A die scratches are now barely visible or completely missing. The die gouge to the right of the lower lip remains very strong. Reverse: The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die listed as 1963 1¢ WDDR-002. See that listing for the reverse details.
