1963 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1963-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1963-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is clockwise (CW), seen on the L in LIBERTY, the G in GOD and both T's in TRUST, and that L shows tripling. Obverse: Wexler notes no markers for Stage A. Stage B: the G of GOD no longer shows its doubling; a gouge lies right of the lower N of IN; and a gouge projects from the vest at its lower front, SW of the mint mark. Stage C: a crack starts at the bust's bottom left point and runs NE through the shoulder. Reverse: no markers are noted for Stage A. Stage B: a gouge to the right of the T in CENT at its base and a die chip on the right cornice. Stage C is a new reverse die: a short horizontal scratch runs NNW from the upper left of the I in UNITED, a horizontal scratch sits above the left cornice, and scratches extend east from the top right of the Memorial roof. John A. Wexler submitted Stage A and Stage B, and Gene Nichols Stage C. CONECA lists it as 3-O-V-CW, and its Coppercoins number is 1963D-1DO-004.
