Documented by John Conway and attributed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files under 1963-D WDDR-010, this Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel DDR is a Class II distorted hub doubled die reverse displaying a very close constant spread toward center on E PLURIBUS UNUM. The consistent, tightly spaced spread is a Class II characteristic where hub distortion produces a nearly parallel secondary impression. Die markers are well defined: parallel die scratches appear between the T and S of CENTS, and vertical scratches run in and between the first U and R of PLURIBUS — two spatially separated marker zones providing strong authentication independent of the doubling. The CENTS area scratches are useful because the denomination at the bottom of the reverse is routinely examined by variety specialists working Denver-mint Jefferson Nickel material. Conway's attribution credit places WDDR-010 within the body of 1963-D reverse doubled dies contributed by individual researchers to the Wexler database. The 1963-D Jefferson Nickel was struck in the copper-nickel alloy defining the circulated series, with Denver production in this year substantial.
