1962 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-059

Description

1962 WDDO-059 is a doubled die obverse on the 1962 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid shows south of the normal eyelid. On the obverse, faded diagonal scratches run northeast off Lincoln's forehead, nose and upper chin. A gouge runs southwest from the middle of the left edge of the G in GOD, and a diagonal scratch lies between the lower parts of the G and O in GOD. On the reverse, a long scratch leads from the S in STATES into the P and L of PLURIBUS, and a distinctive pattern of scratches sits above the right side of the Memorial roof. Numerous vertical scratches mark most of the bays. A horizontal scratch crosses the upper O in ONE, and another runs between the centers of the C and E in CENT. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
