1962 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-024
ErrorDescription
Attributed by John A. Wexler and cross-referenced as CONECA 17-R-II, the 1962 Jefferson Nickel WDDR-024 presents a visually engaging Class II Distorted Hub Doubling pattern on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that increases from left to right across the inscription. Closer doubling appears on E PLURIBUS UNUM and CENTS. The left-to-right gradient is characteristic of distorted hub doubling where the deformation radiates across the die surface, creating progressively greater displacement. No significant obverse markers have been noted. The reverse carries three die markers: a die scratch below the right side of the M of UNUM, a slanted die scratch through the first U of UNUM, and a die dot to the left of the M of MONTICELLO. The CONECA 17-R-II cross-reference places this variety within the standardized classification system maintained by the Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America, providing an independent confirmation alongside the Wexler catalog. The increasing left-to-right doubling on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA serves as the most reliable pickup point for collectors examining this Philadelphia-mint regular strike.
