1962 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-037

Description

Cataloged as UVC-1114 and DMR-045 in the VarietyVista system, the 1962 Jefferson Nickel DDR-037 presents light spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM with very light spread on UNITED and FIVE. Three die stages document the progression. Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B, at mid-die-state, is identified by a die scratch running east-west under the IC of MONTICELLO, with the obverse also at MDS. Stage C places both the reverse and obverse at late die state. The spread across the motto and denomination, while light, affects enough separate design elements to provide multiple confirmation points. Collectors should focus on the E PLURIBUS UNUM inscription where the spread is most pronounced, using the east-west die scratch beneath MONTICELLO at Stage B as the primary attribution marker. The late die state at Stage C may show additional deterioration that can obscure the lighter doubling on UNITED and FIVE.
