1962 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-008

Description

Listed as DDR-008 for the 1962 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, this doubled die reverse shows medium spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE CENTS, with light spread on MONTICELLO. The distinction between medium and light spread across different elements reflects the geometry of hub misalignment: features in the direction of maximum displacement show stronger doubling, while those closer to the tilt axis exhibit only minor secondary impressions. Die markers under UVC-1085 and DMR-016 document three stages: Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B is mid-die-state (unconfirmed), and Stage C is late die state (unconfirmed), indicating detailed die state analysis remains incomplete. Jefferson Nickels from 1962 were among the last Philadelphia issues before the Mint temporarily removed mint marks from all coins in 1965 in response to the nationwide coin shortage.
